Vantongerloo Frans

Frans Vantongerloo was a painter and graphic artist who was born in Antwerp in 1882 and who died in Kalmthout in 1956. He was brother of George Vantongerloo. He took the entrance exam for the Prix de Rome in 1907. He realized landscapes, dune and polder views, portraits, interiors and still lifes. During the First World War he stayed in the Netherlands. From the press at the time: "His landscapes show character and testify to his strong personality." He worked in Antwerp and Kalmthout. He exhibited, among other things, at the Quatrième Salon de Printemps in Brussels in 1912 and in Liège in 1921. Won the Prize of the Belgian State in 1942. His works can be found, among other things, in the collection of the Belgian and Dutch Royal Families. According to unverified sources, he died in Kalmthout in 1965. (Piron)
