Minnaert Frans

Frans Minnaert was a Belgian artist who was born in 1929 in Idegem and who died in Aalst in 2011. He was a painter, draftsman and printmaker. Training at the Academies in Aalst and Brussels (1954-1958). 1951 study trip to Rome. Later also study trips to Yugoslavia (1965), South Africa (1969) and Japan (1972). Debuted around 1960 with works in the spirit of pre-war expressionism and in a rather gloomy color palette. Then evolved to works in which a fantastic world was evoked and in which wild landscapes, man, fauna and flora played the leading role. The human figure often suffered a complete symbiosis with nature. The earthy colors with infinite harmonies created an atmosphere of birth and beginning. In the 1990s, his inspiration was found in women. Female portraits and figures were created, mainly characterized by feelings and emotions. From the press: "Dark and sometimes also luminous figures, often of a female body, reveal what is usually not revealed: the interior, the rhythm of the mind or heart, the eloquence of an attitude that is actually a flash. His creatures are dark monuments in a moving and charged space" (H.B., 1977). Work in the underground station Saint-Guidon in Brussels. From 1972 to 1995 he was director of the Higher State School for Visual Arts in Anderlecht. Was buried in Herne. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. Source: Piron.
