Heyens Frans

Frans Heyens was a Belgian artist, born in Sint-Gillis/Brussels in 1928. He was a painter, watercolorist and draftsman. He studied at the Academy in Ixelles under Charles Swyncop. In 1957 he received a first prize with great distinction for portrait painting. He mainly worked in the watercolor technique. After his studies, he completed his studies at the Watercolor School of Pierre Chariot. Frans Heyens mainly painted landscapes, marines (Ostend) and cityscapes. He found the inspiration for his landscapes not only in Belgium, but also in Germany, France (Azure coast) and Spain, for his cityscapes in the old, picturesque districts of Bruges, Ghent, Mechelen, Paris, Nice and Menton. Clear and cheerful tonalities predominate on his color palette. As a good draftsman, he was able to capture numerous characters from his everyday environment on paper. Professionally, he worked for the NMBS, where he became deputy chief inspector. He exhibited in various galleries from 1975 to 1989 and participated in group exhibitions including the Grand Salon de Printemps at the Art House of Goddiarch in Villers-la-Ville in 1989. (Piron)
