
Claes Frans
Frans Claes was a Belgian artist, born in Laeken/Brussels in 1935 and died in Merchtem in 2017. He was a sculptor, draftsman, painter and musician. He received his art training at Sint-Lukas in Schaerbeek and at the Academy in Brussels. He became a sculpture teacher at the RHoK in Etterbeek, plastic arts teacher at the Academy in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre. He used an abstract design. As a sculptor he worked in stone, wood and bronze. From the press: 'The art of F.C. is open and expressive, does not want to be spectacular in the first instance, but rather intimistic with an emphasis on the charged atmosphere of direct content.' (S.L.) He exhibited in Munich, Dresden and Barcelona, among others. One of his statues is set up in the city of Mexico. He worked in Merchtem. (Piron, BT)
