Willaert Ferdinand

Ferdinand Willaert was a Belgian artist and painter born in 1861 in Ghent and died there in 1938. He was the older brother of Robert Raphaël and Artur Willaert. He attended the Academy of Ghent with, among others, Th. Canneel and Louis Tytgadt. He became a teacher at the Academy at the age of 23. He was an impressionist with a soft and luminous touch. He preferred figures, portraits, Scheldt views, Waasland and Zeeland landscapes, coastal views and especially city and beguinage views. From 1901 to 1934 he was director at the Academy in Dendermonde. (PIRON)
