Béjot Eugène

Eugène Béjot was a French etcher born in Paris in 1867 and died there in 1931. Béjot studied at the Académie Julian in Paris and learned etching from Henri-Gabriel Ibels in 1891. Béjot's technical skills could already be seen in his first series commissioned from 1892, La Seine a Paris. He then firmly established his reputation with his widely acclaimed La Samaritaine, which was exhibited at the 1893 Peintres-Engravers Exhibition in Paris. Béjot's work is inextricably linked to Paris. He made many etchings of the Seine, but also of the quays and buildings of Paris. His delicate use of light evokes the atmosphere of the city. Béjot was highly regarded in England. In 1908 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in London. He was also made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1912.
