Van Den Driessche Ernest

Ernest Van Den Driessche was a Belgian artist born in 1894 in Eine and died in 1985 in Oudenaarde. He was a painter and draftsman, mainly self-taught. He started painting and drawing around 1930 and mainly dealt with folkloric and religious subjects, fairs, processions, parties. He was an important representative of naive painting. His works are characterized by a generous use of the paint paste and the use of a bright color palette. He paid particular attention to Flemish people's life. Some of his works are reminiscent of compositions by James Ensor. He was an honorary citizen of the city of Oudenaarde. He exhibited for the first time in the gallery Elmar in Ghent (1958). Retrospective in 1978 in the town hall in Oudenaarde and in 2013 in Ghent 'Mannekens, Meiskes and Peeties'. We can find his work in the museum in Kortrijk, among other places. He is mentioned in Visual Arts in and around Waregem (1971), BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron).
