Baes Emile

Emile Baes was a Belgian coaster who was born in Brussels in 1879 and who died in Paris in 1954. He was a painter, draftsman and etcher. Education at the Academy in Brussels under J. Stallaert (1895-1901), completed his studies in Paris and worked there under Cabanel and Bonnat. Debuted in academic style with historical scenes and portraits, female figures, characters, but would later find his true calling and achieve success as a fashionable painter of figures and nudes. Was influenced by Flaubert and Symbolism and by Orientalism. He also worked as an author and wrote, among other things, 'Les dieux sadiques' and 'Princesse d'amour'.
