De Clercq Eduard Remi

Eduard Remi De Clercq was a Belgian artist who was born in 1910 in Merelbeke and who died in 1996 in Ghent. He was a painter, pen artist and watercolourist. Training with the mime and painter M.A.J. Hoste and to Sint-Lucas in Ghent. Realized figures, portraits, nudes, landscapes, marines, beach views, still lifes, village views. From the press: 'In the meantime he maintains contact with the mime studio of painter MAJ Hoste, and in a colorful variety of works he evokes that strange world of mimes with that brilliant feast of dolls and pierrots, harlequins and ballerinas.' career with the Ghent police, where he was a commissioner from 1948 until his retirement. Settled in 1953 in Sint-Martens-Latem and became friends with J. De Sutter, H. Malfait, L. De Smet, M. Schelck and especially Vic Dooms. From 1967 he taught at the painters' guild De Vierschaere in Waregem and in 1983 took on the coordination of the recently established Latem Drawing and Painting School.
