Dix John
John Dix, pseudonym of Dierickx, Léon Jean-Pierre, was a Belgian artist born in Leuven in 1935 and died in Leuven in 2000. He was a painter, draftsman, watercolorist, pastelist and xylographer. He followed his education at the Academies in Ghent and Brussels under the supervision of L. Devos and C. Lyr. He then went to England to complete his studies. He painted figuratively with poetic and symbolic elements; he tried to arrive at a new figuration by integrating contemporary tendencies (1972). He found his inspiration in the human figure, a landscape or a cityscape. From the press: 'The oil paintings of J.D. are developed according to the technique of the old masters: layer upon layer with local glazing techniques. This method allows the artist to achieve subtle color nuances. His paintings encourage dreams and give the viewer a poetic rest.' John Dix is mentioned in BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (Piron)
