Deweerdt Paul
Paul Deweerdt was a Belgian artist, born in Roeselare in 1940 and deceased in Roeselare in 1998. He was a painter, draftsman and stamp designer. He studied at Sint-Lucas in Ghent. As a painter, he worked both figuratively (landscapes, figures, horses) and abstractly, with mists and clouds of light and colour.
From the press: “The elegance of his horses, riders, dream figures gradually gave way to a pictoriality that referred only to itself, in line with a contemporary trend of fluid and dynamic painting.” (1995)
He became a teacher at the academy in Roeselare. Paul Deweerdt is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish Visual Artists II, BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (Piron)
