Deprez Mia
Mia Deprez was a Belgian artist, born in Izegem in 1942 and passed away in Izegem in 1997. She was a painter and designer of stamps and wall tapestries. She studied decorative drawing and painting at the Academy of Izegem. She found inspiration for her figurative subjects in her daily surroundings. Her works are immersed in a still and meditative atmosphere.
From the press: “With M.D., the representation of the figurative theme is approached in a very constructivist, stylized and simplified way” and “In M.D.’s painting, everything is reduced to sober planes, where colour naturally plays a dominant role, to such an extent that many of her figurative paintings could just as well be considered abstract.”
Works by Mia Deprez can be found in the museum of Ostend and in the print rooms of Brussels and Antwerp. In 1976-1977, the Belgian State acquired several of her works. She is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists V, BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
