Kunstwerken kopen van de Belgische kunstenares Denyse Willem

Willem Denyse

Denyse Willem is a Belgian painter, watercolourist, draftsman and graphic artist. She was born in Blégny in 1943. In her fairytale-like, but sometimes grim and alienating compositions, the woman holds the reins firmly in her hands. Her works come across as symbolistic, narrative and anecdotal, and sometimes have a kinship with surrealism. From the press: 'the work of D.W. makes one dream of subterranean creatures, of naughty gnomes and horrible goblins, of unchaste witches and of completely amoral individuals from a cabinet of curiosities," and "Seductive women make fun of the man, who is always portrayed as an animal. Roles are switched and playful sarcasm takes over. In order to decipher the stories depicted in sharpened pastels, it is simply necessary to make a link with fairy tales and literature from the past,' and also: 'Like a modern Rubens folk mischievous bodily amusement, D.W. scenes full of myths. The passion for love is always clearly present in the paintings in acrylic paint and in the watercolors. Mythological stories, even fairy tales, are not shunned as a theme and are always stripped of their pure context.' Her work can be found in the Print Room and in the Musée de l'Art Wallon in Liège, among other places. A retrospective at the Museum in Liège was held in 2004. It is listed in BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (piron)
