Dely Christian
Christian Dely was a Belgian artist, born in Waarschoot in 1931 and died in Ghent in 1986. He was a painter, pastellist and graphic artist. He received his artistic training at the Academy in Tourcoing (France) under the guidance of Van Steilant. After the Second World War, inspired and encouraged by the work of Jos Verdegem, he chose an artistic career. He painted figures, nudes, portraits (including clowns), still lifes and compositions. From the press: “In his works, Christian Dely appears as a man full of intense zest for life, who knows how to infuse poetry into his thinking and creation. He mainly produces impressions using brush, palette knife and other materials, and more than line and surface, it is the plastic dimensioning that matters in his work. His style reveals an emotional expressionism that is deeply human, delicately tuned, and radiates a healthy sensuality that never becomes vulgar or coarse.” He is listed in BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists (Piron).
