De Landtsheer Jan
Jan Delandtsheer was a Belgian artist, born in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw in 1896 and died in Itterbeek in 1981. He was a painter and draftsman. He was self-taught. He lived and worked in Molenbeek between 1919 and 1949.
Between 1920 and 1930, he adopted a neo-impressionist touch and a fauvist color palette. Later, he found most of his inspiration in the landscapes of the Pajottenland, and his technique became more impasto. A series of cathedrals from the same period reflects a certain mysticism.
He was the founder of a free studio in Sint-Anna-Pede. Works by Jan Delandtsheer can be found in the Print Cabinet in Brussels. He is mentioned in "Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists" (Piron).
