De Jonghe V.
Jacques De Jonghe (who signs as De Jonghe V.) is a Belgian artist, born in Brussels in 1941. He is a painter and draughtsman. He made his debut at the age of twelve, but gave up painting for a time in 1958. In 1978, he took up the brush again. He studied at the Academy in Brussels and was a pupil of Charles Ph. Schott. His work is related to Surrealism, Symbolism and the fantastic. His paintings often evoke an unsettling world, drawing inspiration in particular from the works of Kafka, T. Owen, De Ghelderode and E.A. Poe. Solo exhibitions were held at the Galerie L’Ange Aigu in Brussels in 1980, at Galerie Memlinc in Ostend in 1980, at Galerie Chardin in Paris in 1981, at Galerie Gertrude Van Dijck in Brussels in 1986, at the ASLK in Antwerp in 1986, at Galerie Présences in Brussels in 1987, at Galerie Maig Davaud in Paris in 1989, and at Galerie Christiane Cloots in Brussels in 1990.
