De Beul Armand

Armand De Beul was a Belgian painter, born in Sint-Agatha-Berchem in 1874 and died in Schaerbeek in 1940. He was a student of his father, Franz De Beul, and pursued further studies at the Academy in Brussels under the guidance of Joseph Stallaert (1893–1899).

He exhibited for the first time in 1894 and achieved immediate success with his work Animals at the Watering Place. He painted interiors, landscapes, rural scenes, farms, market scenes, beguinages, and compositions with figures and animals.

He possessed solid technical skills. Initially, he worked in a precise style with attention to detail and muted tones, but gradually adopted a broader brushstroke. He drew inspiration for his landscapes and rural scenes from Brabant, Flanders, and the Campine.

In 1903, the city of Roeselare acquired his painting The Seamstress.

Armand De Beul is listed in BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (Piron)
