Colpaert Paul

Paul Colpaert was a Belgian artist, born in Serskamp around 1951. He was a painter with a realistic style. He did not receive an academic education but learned painting through private lessons from his father, Prosper Colpaert, who taught him the palette knife technique.
Colpaert found his inspiration in the Flemish landscape, with a strong focus on the beauty and poetry of nature and rural scenes. His works are characterized by an accurate and authentic depiction of nature, using only a palette knife. For finer details, such as delicate branches, he later used a brush. His color palette consisted of subtle blends of green tones and a distinctive gray, giving his paintings an atmospheric quality. From the press: “His works reflect great reverence for life and the quietness of nature. He succeeds in evoking interest in life within this serene environment.” and “The interplay of light and shadow, the movement of the clouds, and the harsh winters in his work illustrate his fascination with nature, which he strives to depict.”
In 1980, he exhibited his paintings at the Bond Moyson buildings in Lede. He had a connection with the painter Marcel Beekman and was the brother of painter Dirk Colpaert. (BT)
