
Cogen Felix
Felix Cogen was a Belgian artist, born in Sint-Niklaas-Waas in 1838 and passed away in Brussels in 1907. He was an etcher, engraver, and painter. He was the older brother of Alfons Cogen. He received his training at the Academy of Ghent under the guidance of Th. Canneel and F. De Vigne. He started as a landscape painter but later developed a preference for portraits, historical scenes, genre scenes, coastal scenes with fishermen, and social sketches. He lived for some time in Brussels, then in Ghent and Sint-Martens-Latem, before eventually settling permanently in Brussels. Felix Cogen participated in the Brussels Salons in 1863 and 1869. His works can be found in the museums of Ghent, Bruges, Liège, and Kortrijk. He is listed in BAS I, II and Twee eeuwen signaturen van Belgische kunstenaars. (Piron)
