Coeck Hubert

Hubert Coeck was a Belgian artist, born in Niel in 1871 and passed away in Niel in 1944. He was a painter and draftsman. In 1895, 1899 and 1901, he participated in the preparatory competitions for the Prix de Rome. He mainly created landscapes and cityscapes, but gained particular recognition as a portraitist of the affluent bourgeoisie in and around Niel. During the First World War, he stayed and worked in Nice. In 1898, he exhibited in Antwerp. He was also the founder of the Municipal Drawing and Painting School in Niel. (Piron)
