Clevers William

Willy (William) Clevers was a Belgian artist, born in Ghent in 1911 and died in Oudenaarde in 1974. He was a painter and restorer. He was self-taught. His painted subjects are mostly expressionist landscapes. He worked for a short time in Sint-Martens-Latem. From the press: 'Large visionary ensembles in bright colours, in which the transience of man in the world is depicted in an expressionistic and surrealistic way. He often emphasizes social injustice.' He was a member of the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire in Ghent. His grandfather was a teacher at the Academy in Oudenaarde. William Clevers participated in the Salon in Ghent in 1933 and in the 46th Salon in 1937. He is listed in Levende kunst in Zuid-Oost-Vlaanderen. (Oudenaarde, 1973) (Piron)
