Silvain Christian
Christian Silvain was born in 1950 in Eupen (Belgium). Silvain is a precocious artist. Even as a child (he is only 4 years old), he has been fascinated by drawing. He finds refuge in it. It is the discovery of a painting Paul Delvaux that later confirmed him in his decision to become a painter. Inhabited by the frenzy of creation, he begins exhibiting his works at the age of 21. After a short detour through engraving and sculpture, he turned to a poetic art in the 1980s. Inspired by the works of autistic children and mentally handicapped people. At the end of the eighties, his period of the “Façades” begins, where he uses a hyper-realistic technique to represent dilapidated facades, left by time with graffiti or torn posters. From 2002, the artist produces works with black acrylic paint teeming with objects, characters, animals that define his style. Over a 50-year career, Silvain has participated in more than 450 exhibitions around the world, some of which are in large galleries or museums such as the Ludwig Museum in Germany, which dedicates an exhibition to his series of 'Les Prisonniers' (11 works) which are now part of the permanent collection of the Museum. His works are part of more than 70 Museums around the world. (website silvain.be)
