De Roover Carl
Carl De Roover (Carlo) was a Belgian artist born in Boom in 1900 and died in 1986 in Antwerp. He was the brother of painter Albert De Roover. He first took evening classes and later optimized his style at the Higher Institute in Antwerp, under supervision of Is. Opsomer. From 1920 he was influenced by cubism for some time. He then simplified his compositions even more to join constructivism around 1924. Around 1930 he painted sun-drenched landscapes with a very loose invoice. In the 1930s he became a hyper-realist. Around 1960 he evolved into geometric abstraction and mataire painting with relief effects. Interiors in hyper-realistic design were created in 1975. (PIRON). His favorite subjects were figure representations, landscapes (as a genre), nude figures, abstractions and still lifes (RKD).
