Brusse Mark

Mark Brusse is a Dutch visual artist, born in Alkmaar on 25 July 1937. Son of author and journalist Marie Joseph Brusse and Cornélie Weidema. Brother of journalist Peter Brusse, half-brother of, among others, actor Kees Brusse, filmmaker Ytzen Brusse, architect Henk Brusse and journalist Jan Brusse. Studied at the Art Academy in Arnhem. Since 1960, he has lived and worked almost permanently in Paris. In 1965, he travelled to New York with a grant, where he met, among others, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Larry Rivers. He created environments there which he calls occupation de l’espace. His work is included in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (Hommage à Piet Mondriaan, 1965). He stayed in Berlin in 1970. Japan and Korea have had a significant influence on his work. In Japan, he created sober drawings and collages; later followed a series of large-format works on Korean paper. Author of Het Hart van Odano. Also works as a printmaker in lithography and mixed media. Lives and works in Paris (Montparnasse). Designed the meeting point at Schiphol Airport. His work is oriented toward pop art and assemblage.
