Blum Marcelle
Marcelle Blum (Vilvoorde, 1893–1984). Painter. She spent her childhood in Ghent, where she studied under J.F. De Boever and received further training at the Academy. Upon returning to Vilvoorde, she worked for a long period under the guidance of Jules Brouwers. H. Logelain and A. Bastien also provided her with advice and support. She exhibited for the first time in Brussels in 1931. Her subjects included floral arrangements, garden scenes, studio interiors, and still lifes. Her works exude a sense of intimism. The influence of her mentor, J. Brouwers, is clearly evident in her body of work. She was a member of the L'Effort circle. She participated in the Ghent Salons in 1933 (*Roses*), 1937 (*Interior*), and 1946 (*Still Life and Roses*). Listed in BASI and Twee eeuwen signaturen van Belgische kunstenaars (Two Centuries of Signatures by Belgian Artists). (Piron)
