Bill Orix, pseudonym of Guillaume / Willem Hoorickx was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1900 and who died in Paris in 1983. He was a painter and designer of collages. Medicine training in Antwerp. Self-taught when it comes to painting. Settled on the French Riviera in 1945, in Paris in 1970. After his imprisonment in the German concentration camp of Mauthausen, he painted raw realistic camp memories for a while. From 1946 he produced geometric abstract work to later evolve towards lyrical abstraction. Sometimes referred to his works as "ideograms" or "mindscapes". Was married to the artist Anna Staritsky.
