Bertrand Raymond
Raymond Bertrand was a French artist, born in Touraine in 1945. After completing his artistic studies at the Beaux-Arts in Avignon and the Centre d'Art Dramatique in Paris, he exhibited his work for the first time during a solo exhibition on Rue Visconti in Paris. In 1968, publisher Eric Losfeld released an album of his work titled "Dessins érotiques," followed by a second album in 1970.
Raymond Bertrand had a natural affinity for the Asian world, with its rich flora, fauna, races, and cultures. This fascination, which began with a love for baroque and sumptuous arts, evolved over the years into an inexhaustible passion. Long and regular travels to Indonesia and Sri Lanka provided him with a constant stream of inspiration.
Between 1968 and 1972, Bertrand illustrated the covers of various magazines and several books, primarily focused on science fiction. Always seeking out old works on these tropical kingdoms with their prestigious past, he found in literature and images both his dreams and the deeper meaning of his travel experiences. Photography and writing complemented his artistic work, offering a new dimension to what his painting sought to express. (BT)
