De Clerck Bert

Bert De Clerck or also Albert De Clerck was a Belgian artist who was born in 1912 in Gentbrugge and who died in 1989 in Ghent. He was a painter, etcher, sculptor. From 1929 to 1936 training at the Academy in Ghent under Robert Aerens, Victor De Budt, Carl De Cock, Leonard De Buck, Oscar Coddron and Jos Verdegem. Evolved from expressionism to surrealism and managed to develop a personal design in the 1960s. Thus delivered both surreal and abstract sculptures and paintings. From the press: 'In his work the violated man is central as a carrier of emotionally charged ideas such as: sadness, fear, torment, mutilation, insecurity.' The artist café Taverne Antonio in Ghent (1957-1961) ran it. From 1965 he taught at the Cultural Convent of the University of Ghent. Work in the Museum in Ostend. (piron)
