Belgische schilder en etser Benny Want

Want Benny

Benny Want is a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1943. He is a painter and printmaker. Basic training in publicity at the International School of Belgium (1964), drawing via the Famous Artist School of Amsterdam (1966). Painted from 1968 as self-taught with oil paint. Perfected in etching at the Academy in Schoten (1988). Since 1975 exhibits mainly in Antwerp. Works in a figurative design that is close to the world of dreams and fantasy. His works bathe in silence, breathe symbolism and sometimes also refer to Inca culture and the cosmic. From the press: “Because of landmarks such as incomprehension, an unspoken feeling of rejection and an all-dominating loneliness, a shadow clears up. I discover my reflection. Its symbolic backgrounds bear witness to a life full of insight. (…) With brush images he creates an, for some, inaccessible world. A new dimension in which he tries to throw off his spiritual straitjacket. I share this symbolism with him. ” (Fr. Boni, poet, 1980) Exhibited, among other things, at the Reinaert cultural center in Sint-Job in 1978, in the Castle of Schoten in 1980 ("Open Cloth"). Signs Benny. Participated in Open Ateliers in Antwerp in 2000 and 2004. Mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists.
