Peeters Arthur

Arthur Peeters was a Belgian artist who was born in Diegem in 1922 and who died there in 2016. He was a painter, draftsman, watercolourist, pastelist, graphic artist, also applies the scraper technique. Training at Sint)Lukas in Schaerbeek and at the Academy in Molenbeek under A. Verheyen, R. Strebelle and M. Bollé (1938-1945). Finds his inspiration in nature and in old picturesque corners from his native region. Classic figurative design with impressionism influences. Worked professionally as a draftsman of banknotes, among other things, in the graphics department of the printing house of the National Bank of Belgium. Also established himself as an independent photographer in 1946, dealing with publicity and the layout of magazines. From 1976 also worked as a teacher of calligraphy and plastic arts and from 1978 the driving force behind the drawing and painting studio in the Marga castle in Diegem. In 2002 Diegem-nostalgia was published, a book with forty watercolors by him. As a tribute to the founder, the Marga drawing studio was renamed Vrij Kunstatelier Arthur Peeters in 2007. (piron)
