Schilderijen kopen van de Belgische schilder Antoon Marstboom

Marstboom Antoon

Antoon Marstboom was an Antwerp artist who was born in Antwerp in 1905 and died there in 1960. He was a painter, draftsman and sculptor. He was educated in Antwerp at the Academy (1920-1929) and at the Higher Institute under the direction of Is. Opsomer (1929-1935). He was influenced by impressionism and before 1940 mainly painted idyllic landscapes with nude figures. He worked in a loose sketchy invoice and had a preference for bright green. He made masterful use of the interplay of light and shadow and refined color shades. By about 1950, Cubist influences appeared, followed by an evolution towards abstraction. He used the Antwerp harbour, the Scheldt, ships and seagulls as a starting point for increasingly abstract compositions. At the end of his life he evolved into completely abstract minimalist work, which surprises with a beautiful color palette. He settled in the Kempen during the Second World War and designed sets for the Royal Dutch Theater and the National Theater from 1944 to 1948. In 1951 he became a drawing teacher at the Academy in Antwerp. His work can be found in the museums in Antwerp and Brussels, among others. He is mentioned in BAS I, II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (Piron).
