De kunstenaar André Toussaint

Toussaint André

André Toussaint was a Belgian artist, born in Hermeton-sur-Meuse in 1923 and died in 2006. He was a xylographer, graphic artist, watercolorist, calligrapher and tapestry designer. He was educated at Sint-Lucas in Brussels and at the Academies in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek and Sint-Joost-ten-Node. He won the Triennial Prize for Engraving in 1960. In 1964 he was one of the co-founders of the Cap d'Encre Group. He found his inspiration in the human figure, animals and nature. Refined and sensitive, he managed to capture the main structures of his subjects in well-considered compositions. André Toussaint's work was purchased by the French Community (period 1976-1982). His work can be found in the Prentenkabinet in Brussels, among other places. He is mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
