Bogaert André
André (Dré) Bogaert was a Belgian artist, born in Zele in 1920 and died in Aalst in 1986. He was a painter, draftsman and assemblage artist. He was educated at the Academy in Dendermonde (1945-1950) and at the National Higher Institute in Antwerp (1951-1956). Initially he was active as a painter, but from the mid-1960s he started to assemble all kinds of reliefs, using various materials: wood, leather, felt, foam rubber, polyester, textiles and machine parts. Around 1974 he returned to painting and painted landscapes, shrubs, trees, adding strange elements such as white circles, squares or abstract characters. In 1958 he joined the Group G58 in Antwerp. André Bogaert is mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
