Ampe Dominique

Dominique Ampe is a Belgian artist, born in Uccle in 1944. He is a graphic artist, painter, and draftsman. He studied at Sint-Lukas in Brussels from 1962 to 1968 and at the Academy in Mechelen from 1968-1969. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. His works often refer to plant-like or animal forms, elements, or structures. From the press: “His refined manner of depicting natural materials is clearly the result of a long and diligent methodical search and experiences that he has actually undergone and lived through” and “D.A. manages to bring seemingly contradictory elements together in an apparent way. His art is the result of a subtle exploration of the boundary between painting and graphic arts.” (J.B., 1998). And “Dominique Ampe employs various techniques, as he also expresses various layers of emotion from ecstasy: watercolor, oil paint, colored pencil, script, collage or the illusion of it alongside reality, the illusion of remembering, desolation, layers of consciousness that glide over other days, narrative and self-portrait, chairs and tables, the Church and its antipode, the studio of accomplishment and the landscape of Dominique who cannot describe desires nor grasp them.” (Hugo Brutin). Dominique Ampe was a lecturer at Sint-Lukas in Brussels from 1982 to 1985 and subsequently at the Sint-Joost Art Academy in Breda/Netherlands. Today, he lives and works in Breda/Netherlands.
