Ameel Luc
Luc Ameel is a Belgian artist, born in Woesten-Vleteren in 1943. He is a painter, draftsman, watercolorist, graphic artist and illustrator. He followed vocational training in drawing and painting in Kortrijk, graphics and decorative arts at the Academies in Bruges and Ypres and the specialization in Advertising and Decors at the Lierman Institute in Bruges. He made his debut in 1958. He prefers landscapes, old farms, (wind)mills, and folkloric subjects. He finds his inspiration mainly in the Westhoek. Many houses and corners from that region that he captured in his works have now been demolished or disappeared. In a sense, he can be regarded as the curator of the centuries-old heritage on both sides of the “Schreve”. He was also an illustrator for the Heuvellandgids, Kemmel, Guide des Monts de Flandre, calendars, poetry collections and pilgrimage flags. He is also the author of picture card series. Professionally he worked as a publicity painter. In 2022, on the occasion of his 65th birthday as a painter, an exhibition was held in the Hop Museum in Poperinge. Luc Ameel is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists II, BAS II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron, BT)
