Algrain Andrée

Andrée Algrain was a Belgian artist, born in Bruges in 1905 and died in Brussels in 2000. She was a painter, draftsman and watercolorist. From 1920 to 1935 she studied at SASK-Brugge as one of the first female students. Her teachers were Jef Vande Fackere and Théo De Vuyst for painting and for sculpture and modeling Alfons Dewispelaere. Between 1934 and 1940 she often accompanied Armand Jamar during his painting trips in Bruges and Zeebrugge. During this period she underwent a lot of influence from Jamar. She was co-founder of the Kring 46, a drawing and sketch club and of Contemporary Art. She painted melancholy landscapes, cityscapes, (children's) portraits, interiors and nudes with oil and watercolor. Andrée Algrain is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
