Duriau Alfred

Alfred Duriau was a Belgian artist born in Bergen in 1877 and died there in 1958. He was a painter, draftsman and engraver. Grew up in the Academy in Bergen, where his mother, who became a widow in 1888, was a janitor. Education at the Academy in Bergen: engraving under the direction of A. Danse, drawing under A. Bourlard, painting under the direction of E. Motte (1890-1896). Also worked for Bonnat and Eug. Career in Paris. Prix de Rome for Engraving in 1906. Spent two years in Rome. He became famous as an engraver and had a preference for landscapes, still lifes (Bergen) cityscapes, figures and portraits. Also engraved while inspired by other masters. Was a teacher at the Academy in Bergen from 1912 to 1947. Work in the Museum in Bergen, among others.
