Dessenis Alfons

Alfons Dessenis (Alphonse) was a Belgian artist born in Ghent in 1874 and died in Wemmel in 1952. He was a painter, draftsman and crayon painter. He took classes at the Academy in Ghent. He stayed and worked in Sint-Martens-Latem from 1901 to 1922 and became friends with the painters of the first Latem group. He preferred, among other things, (Leie) landscapes, figures, portraits and still lifes. He was initially influenced by expressionism. He then used an impressionistic, luministic color palette. He was co-founder of the "Art and Knowledge" Circle. To be explored in the Museums in Brussels and Deinze. (PIRON)
