
Claeys Albert Jozef
Albert Jozef Claeys was a Belgian painter born in 1889 in Eke and he died in 1967 in Deinze. He followed his training at Sint-Lucas and at the Academy in Ghent under the supervision of J. Delvin, Metdepenninck and G. Minne. Drafted to war in 1916, where he drew hundreds of portraits of fallen soldiers at the front. He settled in Mullem in 1923, where he mainly painted alleys, churches, interiors and portraits. From 1932 he moved into a house in Deurle on the Leie region which he would praise in a masterly way. He also occasionally painted still lifes. (PIRON)
