
De Deken Albert
Albert De Deken was a Belgian artist who was born in Schoten in 1915 and who died in Kapellen in 2003. He was a painter, draftsman, watercolorist. Education at the Higher Institute led by Is. Opsomer and at the Academy in Antwerp, at the Grande Chaumière in Paris, pupil of O. Friesz in 1948. Painted portraits, nudes, interiors, still lifes, compositions with figures, landscapes, sea views. Spontaneous and fresh intimist, fauvist color palette, expressionist design. Traveled a lot to Norway (1947), the Netherlands (1948), Paris (1950), Virginia (1988). From the press: “His work radiates a youthful liveliness, because he always works with fresh, bright colors, and also because he does not strive for excessive accuracy in the rendering, but pursues an essence as a result of the accuracy of the touch with which the color is applied."
Was a teacher at the Academy in Antwerp from 1954 to 1980. Was a gifted football player during his youth and played in the national team, among other things. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists.
