Acart Adeline

Adelina (also Adeline or Aline) Acart was a Belgian artist, born in Ghent in 1874 and deceased in Lovendegem in 1961. She was a painter, draughtswoman and watercolourist. She studied with J. Gondry and F. Willaert, and also trained at the Academy in Ghent under the guidance of J. Delvin and G. Minne.

She created genre scenes, church interiors and interiors of bourgeois homes. Her works are imbued with an intimate atmosphere. She exhibited for the first time in the Rotunda of the University of Ghent in 1894. She participated in the Ghent Salons of 1899 (Le Lundi, Les femmes pauvres à la Crypte de Saint-Bavon), 1925 (Church Interior, drawing), 1929 (Church Interior) and 1950 (Church Interior). In 1927, she held a solo exhibition at the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire in Ghent.

She taught at the Academy in Eeklo. From 1932 onwards, she worked in Lovendegem. She is listed in Femmes peintres à Gand 1792–1955 (G. Van Herrewege, Ghent 1955), in BAS II and in Twee eeuwen signaturen van Belgische kunstenaars. (Piron)
