Van Cauwenberghe Robert

Robert Van Cauwenberghe was a Belgian artist who was born in Ghent in 1905 and died there in 1985. He was a painter. Education at the Academy in Ghent under the direction of J. Delvin and G. Minne, at the Higher Institute in Antwerp under the direction of Is. Opsomer. Rome Prize for Painting in 1928. Realized domestic scenes, figures, portraits, still lifes. Debuted in the 1920s in a powerfully sculpted expressionist design. His later official portraits were stylized and painted in warm tones that were secondary to the drawing of the figures. Around 1970 he completely changed his style. The warm tones disappeared and there was an obtrusive erotic accent. Was a member of the Art and Knowledge Circle in Ghent. Was drawing teacher at the Academy in Antwerp. Lived in Heusden in the gardener's house of the castle 't Klaverke. Work in the Museum in Antwerp.
