Bosiers René (Renaat)
René (Renaat) Bosiers was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1875 and died in Borgerhout in 1927. He was a painter and engraver. He was educated at the Academy in Antwerp under the supervision of J. Rosier and J. De Vriendt. He mainly painted Antwerp harbor views and scenes, typical or old Antwerp city corners, slums and alleys, church and museum interiors and popular types. His work was influenced by Impressionism, showing a strong pictorial character, which was a heritage of realism in the Belgian school at the turn of the century. He was a member of the Circle If Ik Kan. His work can be found in the Museum in Antwerp, among other places. He is mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
