Gobert Johan
Johan Gobert was a Belgian artist who was born in Ghent in 1952 and who died in 1985 in Ronse. He was a painter, draftsman, watercolourist, pastelist and etcher. Education at the HIGRO and at the academy in Ghent under F. De Vogelaere. Settled in Italy for some time in 1980. Captures his moods and contrasts of feeling in his works: hope, despair, love, hate, fear, certainty, laughter and weeping occur simultaneously. From the press: 'The introvert, the melancholic, the idealist can mainly be found in the watercolors and the pastels. The large-format paintings, on the other hand, are raw and impetuous, at times expressionistic, at other times in a naive-symbolic style.' Selected for the Provincial Prize of East Flanders for Graphics in 1973. (Piron)
