de Graef Jan

Jan de Graef was a Belgian artist who was born in 1877 in Antwerp and who died in 1953 in Berchem/Antwerp. He was a painter and lithographer. Education at the Academy in Antwerp, where he later became a teacher. Realized landscapes, park views, flowers, still lifes. From the press: "J.D.G. possesses a strong imagination that is especially expressed in his park scenes, in which he often suggests Watteau characters in 'semitones'.' (1929). Was a member of the Circle Als Ik Kan in Antwerp. Work in the Museum in Antwerp, among others. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
