Cassiers Henri

Henry Cassiers was a Belgian artist who was born in Antwerp in 1858 and who died in Brussels in 1944. He was a painter and watercolourist. He studied architectural design under the direction of P. Saintenoy for six years. On Sundays he took classes at the Free Academy La Patte de Dindon, at the Grand Place in Brussels. He went to study at the Academy in Antwerp and received support and advice from Henri Stacquet. Was mainly a watercolorist. He painted landscapes and seascapes in warm colors, often in Flanders and Zeeland. Also found inspiration in sailors, fishermen and farmers. In his works he always emphasized the picturesque of his subjects. Realistic design characterized by a feeling for light buttons. He also worked as an illustrator (including Trois femmes de Flandre by C. Mauclair, works by E. Verhaeren and C. Buysse) and designed numerous posters. Was president of the Belgian Association of Watercolor Painters. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. Source: Piron.
