Geefs Adrien

Adrien Charles Geefs was a Belgian painter, born in Schaarbeek in 1866 and died in Sint-Joost-ten-Noode in 1896. He was the son of Alexander Geefs. After his father's death in 1866, he was adopted by his uncle Charles. He trained in drawing and painting at the Academy in Brussels (1882-1889). He created rural scenes, flowers, portraits and landscapes. In 1892 he exhibited at the 35th exhibition in the Casino in Ghent, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Fine Arts in Ghent (portrait of Mrs. A.G. and Lente). Posthumously he was represented in 1908 at the Exposition Rétrospectieve de Peinture et Sculpture in Schaarbeek with Portrait (oil paint) and En Vigie en Temps d'arrêt (Two drawings). In 1944 and 1945, works by him were auctioned in the G. Giroux gallery in Brussels. (Piron)
