From the press: 'The entire oeuvre of J.B. is a moving and profound meditation on the human form and the spirit or the spiritual that animates that form', (H. Brutin) and 'The work of J.B. is usually situated in the background of the painterly revival of the 1980s. However, he had already been busy converting his emotions into a vital, powerful and expressive painting for some time. The artist did not opt for a flat, decorative painting technique and a tempered palette, but rather for an exuberant use of materials and a lively color palette. With a preparation of paper paste, pigment and glue, he applies the paste with brushstrokes to a rough and unprepared canvas. This gives the color a third dimension and a dynamic vibration. The result is sometimes abstract, sometimes poetic or figurative. (Piron)
