Simon of Cyrene is mentioned in the three Synoptic Gospels of the New Testament as the man who is said to have carried the cross of Jesus: They forced a passerby who was just entering the city, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry the cross to carry.
