Brems Walter F.

Walter F. Brems is a Belgian artist who was born in 1947 in Reet. He is a painter, draftsman, graphic artist, designer of ex-libris and collages of his own graphics and drawings. Husband of the artist Riet Bosch. Education at the Academy in Niel, drawing, painting and graphic design at the Academy in Antwerp. His works often deal with the loneliness and alienation of people. From the press: 'His canvases are an apotheosis of sophistication and delicate thoughts, often very profound, beauty in many guises, a fragile tragedy, colors of the night, aesthetics tempered or sublimated by sadness' and 'Gradually the his former symbols (bird, skeleton, plant, etc.) and his attention went more to the human portrait, for which he and his family stood as models. Today (1982) everything revolves around people for him. An almost pure monochromy with extremely fine nuances and a dreamy atmosphere are characteristic of his entire oeuvre' and also: 'W.B. surprises the viewer with dreamy, enigmatic women. His characters betray a melancholy view into a world of claustrophobia.' (1988) Member of the Circle Piet Staut in Beveren and of the Koninklijke Wase Kunstkring. In 1972 he opened his own art gallery in Sint-Niklaas, Graph-X. (1976-2000). Work in the collection of the Belgian State, the Chalcography in Brussels and the cities of Ronse, Sint-Niklaas and Dendermonde, the provincial authorities of East Flanders and Antwerp, the Museum in Ghent.
